How RV detailing works

Big surface, same careful process.

An RV is not a car scaled up. The roof, the gel coat and the decals all need handling differently.

Why does RV gel coat go chalky?

Gel coat is a pigmented resin, and UV breaks down its surface. It starts as a loss of gloss, then turns to the white chalk that comes off on your hand. At Colorado’s altitude, on a rig parked outside for months at a time, that happens faster than people expect.

Wax on top of oxidised gel coat does not fix it. The chalk has to be polished off first, which is what the polish-and-wax and cut-polish-and-wax levels are for.

What about the roof?

The roof takes more sun than any other surface on the RV and gets looked at the least. Dirt, sap and black streaks build up and run down the sides every time it rains.

Roof cleaning is part of the exterior work, and it is usually where the black streaks on the sidewalls actually start.

In the shop or where it is parked?

Both. Smaller rigs, vans and trailers can come into the shop at 2725 N Nevada Ave. For big motorhomes and fifth-wheels we bring the equipment to your driveway, storage lot or campsite.

Either way the process and the price list are the same. Tell us where it is when you ask for a quote.

Gtechniq Accredited Installer

Same standard. Bigger surface.

17+ years · professionally trained · Gtechniq accredited

Gel coat, fibreglass and painted aluminium oxidise faster at altitude, and an RV spends months parked in the sun. The correction and coating standard Gtechniq accreditation requires is the one applied to every rig.

RVs are a surface-area problem. The process is the same one we use on paint, scaled up.

Where we work

RV detailing across El Paso County.

RVs are worked on at 2725 N Nevada Ave when they fit, and on site when they do not.

RV detailing, motorhome detailing, camper cleaning and RV oxidation removal are all the same trade: a very large gel coat or painted surface, a roof that takes the worst of the weather, and an interior that has to be reset between trips. We work on Class A, B and C motorhomes, fifth-wheels, travel trailers, toy haulers and camper vans.

Colorado is hard on an RV in a specific way. At 6,035 feet the UV load is higher than at sea level, and a rig stored outside between trips takes that sun for months. Oxidation shows up as chalk on your hand.

Tell us the length, the type and where it is parked, and send a few photos. You get a real starting number before anything is booked.

RV detailing questions

The things people actually ask.

Answered straight. If yours is not here, call the shop and ask.

01How much does RV detailing cost in Colorado Springs?

Exterior work is priced by length and level: wash and wax $300–$750, polish and wax $540–$1,350, and cut, polish and wax $880–$2,200. Interior detailing is $225–$750 by size and condition. Ceramic coating is quoted after inspection.

02Do you come to the RV or does it come to you?

Both. Smaller rigs, vans and trailers can come into the shop at 2725 N Nevada Ave. Larger motorhomes and fifth-wheels are done on site at your driveway, storage lot or campsite.

03What types of RV do you detail?

Class A, B and C motorhomes, fifth-wheels, travel trailers, toy haulers and camper vans.

04Can you remove oxidation from RV gel coat?

Yes. Chalky, faded gel coat is polished back at the polish-and-wax level, and heavy oxidation gets the full cut, polish and wax. Wax alone over oxidation does not fix it.

05Do you clean RV roofs?

Yes. Roof cleaning is part of the exterior work, and it is usually where the black streaks on the sides start.

06Is ceramic coating worth it on an RV?

For a rig that is parked outside between trips it is one of the better uses of a coating, because the RV takes months of continuous sun. The gel coat is corrected first, and the price is quoted after we see it.
