Safety, not just looks

Headlight restoration, $99.99.

Short answer

How much does headlight restoration cost in Colorado Springs?

$99.99 for the pair at our North Nevada shop. The oxidised layer is sanded off, the lens is refined back to clear and then sealed with UV protection. Replacing a pair of modern headlight housings can run into hundreds or thousands of dollars; if the housing and bulbs still work, restoration is usually the answer.

What is included

A restoration, not a polish-over.

Polishing alone only cleans the surface haze. The yellowing is damage in the lens coating, and it has to come off.

How it works

Why headlights go yellow, and how they come back.

Modern lenses are polycarbonate with a factory UV coating. When the coating fails, the lens oxidises.

Why do headlights turn yellow and cloudy?

Polycarbonate lenses leave the factory with a thin UV-protective coating. Sun, heat and road grit break that coating down, and once it is gone the plastic underneath oxidises, yellows and goes cloudy.

At Colorado’s altitude that happens sooner than at sea level. It is not just cosmetic — a cloudy lens scatters the light and cuts how far you can see at night.

After

What does restoration actually involve?

The lens is masked off, the failed coating and oxidised layer are sanded away in progressively finer steps, and the lens is refined back to optical clarity. Then it is sealed with UV protection, because a bare lens would yellow again quickly.

That last step is the difference between a restoration and the wipe-on kits that look good for a few weeks.

Restore or replace?

If the housing is intact, the seals are dry and the bulbs and electronics work, restoration is usually the better value by a wide margin. Replacement makes sense when there is moisture inside, cracks, or damage inside the housing.

We will tell you which it is when we see the car.

Gtechniq Accredited Installer

Done properly, by a detail shop.

17+ years · professionally trained · Gtechniq accredited

The same crew that corrects paint and installs Gtechniq coatings restores headlights. Sanding a lens is abrasive work; doing it without damaging the trim around it is the skill.

Headlight restoration is a correction job on plastic, done with the same care as paint.

Years in the trade

Seventeen-plus years of professional detailing. Reading a surface before touching it is the part of the job that experience buys, and it decides every step after it.

Masked and protected

Paint and trim around the lens are taped off before any sanding starts.

Sealed, not left bare

Every restored lens gets UV protection. Without it, the yellowing comes back fast.

You know who is working on it

A local, family-run shop — Dana Starr, his two sons and a crew he has worked with for years. Licensed, insured and bonded. The same people quote the job and do the job.

Where we work

Headlight restoration across El Paso County.

Done in the shop at 2725 N Nevada Ave. Customers drive in from across the county.

ST6 North Nevada is the in-shop location: detailing, paint correction, Gtechniq ceramic coating, 3M paint protection film, window tint and vinyl, all under one roof in controlled light.

At 6,035 feet the sun is harder on paint, plastics and leather than at sea level, and winter leaves magnesium chloride and sand on everything. Most of what we fix is Colorado doing what Colorado does.

Headlight questions

The things people actually ask.

Answered straight. If yours is not here, call the shop and ask.

01How much does headlight restoration cost?

$99.99 for the pair at ST6 North Nevada.

02How long does headlight restoration last?

Longer than a wipe-on kit, because the lens is sealed with UV protection after it is refinished. 3M headlight film on top extends it further.

03How long does it take?

Usually under a couple of hours, and it can be added to a detail on the same visit.

04Should I restore or replace my headlights?

If the housing is intact, dry inside and the bulbs work, restoration is usually far better value. Moisture inside, cracks or internal damage mean replacement.

05Why not just use a polish?

Polish removes surface haze only. The yellowing is a failed coating and oxidised plastic, which has to be sanded off and then sealed.
