Machine polishing that removes defects rather than filling them, on the entire vehicle rather than the panels you see from the driveway. A coating locks in whatever is underneath it, so this is not the stage to skip — it is the one that decides what you are looking at for the next several years.

If it is not, we will say so. Selling somebody nine years of coating on a car they are trading in next spring is not a win for anyone.
A vehicle you are keeping, where you want the manufacturer standing behind the finish and not just the shop. It is also the only tier where wheels and glass are already inside the number rather than quoted on top.
A car you plan to sell in a few years. The Gtechniq guarantee is non-transferable and stays with the original purchaser, so the nine years do not go with the vehicle.

A manufacturer guarantee is not the same thing as a shop promising to look at it again. This is Gtechniq’s position on this coating.

It covers staining and discolouration of the coated finish and damage from UV, road salt, bird droppings, tree sap, bug etch and acid rain on OEM gloss bodywork. It does not cover stone chips, collision damage or wash marring, it needs a yearly inspection, and it is non-transferable.

Both are 3M product, both are quoted and priced separately — we never roll them into one number. Doing them in the same visit saves a second drop-off, and the car only has to be stripped and prepped once.
3MPaint Protection Film

A coating will not stop a rock. I-25 and Powers throw gravel year round, and chips on a hood are not bad luck here — they are the forecast. Film is the only thing that takes the impact, and it goes under the coating so you keep the gloss on top of it.
3M tint · from $375
At 6,035 feet the UV load is materially higher than at sea level, and it works on your interior the same way it works on paint. Tint is what keeps a dashboard from going grey and a cabin from cooking in the Colorado sun.

It comes down to how long you are keeping the vehicle. The Ultra 9-Year is 9 years at $1,599; the 5-Year is 5 years at $1,099. If you are selling inside a few years the shorter term is the honest answer, and if you are keeping it, the longer one costs less per year.
Keep it dry for the first 12 hours, which is Gtechniq’s cure window, then wait 24 hours before the first proper wash. After that it is every four to six weeks with a pH-neutral shampoo.
