Line by line

What the Platinum Exterior actually includes.

  • Full hand wash, wax and dry — Foam pre-soak, two buckets, microfiber dry.
  • Iron-oxide decontamination — The chemical step, before anything mechanical touches the paint.
  • Clay-bar treatment — Bonded contamination removed on a flooded surface.
  • Light 1-step machine paint correction — A single refining pass. It takes the edge off haze and wash marring and lifts gloss noticeably.
  • Gtechniq ceramic sealer — Applied to corrected, decontaminated paint, which is the only surface it can key to.
  • Wheels and tires — Cleaned, barrels included, then dressed.

What it does not include

  • Interior work of any kind
  • Multi-stage paint correction
  • A 3, 5 or 9-year ceramic coating

The machine step here is a light single-stage pass. Paint with real swirling needs the dedicated correction service, which runs $399 to $899.

The step people ask about

Iron-oxide decontamination and clay bar, in that order.

Every exterior package we sell — Silver, Gold, Platinum Exterior and Platinum Detail — gets both. It is not a premium-tier upsell here.

Iron-oxide decontamination

Brake dustRail dustIndustrial fallout

Iron lands on your paint as microscopic particles with jagged edges. They embed in the clear coat, and once they oxidise they get sharper still. Two things follow: every wash drags them across the surface and scratches it, and the particles begin pitting downward into the paint.

A thioglycolic-acid chemistry complexes with the iron and oxidises it so it lets go.

You can watch it work. The product runs red-purple down the panel as it reacts. That colour is dissolved iron leaving your paint — and on a Colorado truck after a winter of mag chloride and I-25 brake dust, there is a lot of it.

Chemicals dissolve what they are formulated for and nothing else. What is left sits proud of the clear coat — too small to see, easy to feel. Clay is a soft polymer that shears it off without abrading the paint, provided it stays lubricated.

Dry clay is the number-one cause of clay marring, so we flood the panel and work in straight lines, never circles.

You can feel the job finish. The first pass over a contaminated panel drags. When the drag stops, that section is clean.

Do it the other way round and you damage the car

Claying before the chemical step means pulling embedded, oxidised iron across your own clear coat. It is the fast way to install swirl marks while trying to remove contamination.

It is also why decontamination comes before any sealant or coating. Protection applied over bonded contamination does not remove it — it seals it in, and you have just bought three years of it.

Test it yourself

After a wash, put your hand in a thin plastic bag and run it over the hood.

Glass → you are clean.
Fine sandpaper → bonded contamination, and no amount of washing takes it off.

Straight answers

What people ask about this package.

How much is a paint sealant in Colorado Springs?

Platinum Exterior is $349 flat and includes a Gtechniq ceramic sealer along with the decontamination and a light machine correction that make it worth applying. A sealant on its own, over contaminated paint, is not something we will sell you.

What is the difference between a sealant and a ceramic coating?

Months versus years. A sealant is a sacrificial layer measured in months; a Gtechniq ceramic coating is a semi-permanent layer rated at three, five or nine years and it requires full paint correction first. Coatings start at $899 with correction included.

Why is there no interior work at $349?

Because it is deliberately an exterior-only package, for people whose cabin is already how they like it. If you want inside and out, the Gold Detail is $299 and the Platinum Detail is $499.

Why is it the same price for a truck as a car?

The exterior process and the product usage do not change enough with vehicle size to justify a difference here. It is one of only two flat-rate packages we sell — the other is the $89 hand wash.

Will it remove my scratches?

The single-stage pass removes light haze and wash marring and improves gloss. It will not remove deeper scratches or heavy swirling. For that, the dedicated paint correction service runs $399 for a one-step up to $899 for a full multi-stage.
