Line by line

What the Platinum Detail actually includes.

  • Everything in the Gold Detail — Foam wash, decontamination, wheels, full interior.
  • Iron-oxide and clay-bar decontamination — Chemical first, mechanical second.
  • Single-stage machine paint correction — One refining pass across the paint — light-to-moderate swirls and haze come out and the gloss jumps.
  • Engine bay detail — Degreased, rinsed around covered electronics, dried and dressed.
  • Full interior shampoo — Beyond extraction — the whole cabin taken back.
  • Ceramic-grade sealant — Applied last, to corrected paint.

What it does not include

  • Multi-stage correction (Stage 2 or 3)
  • A 3, 5 or 9-year ceramic coating
  • Paint protection film or tint

The correction here is a single stage. Heavier swirling or oxidation needs the dedicated service at Stage 2 or 3.

The step people ask about

Iron-oxide decontamination and clay bar, in that order.

Every exterior package we sell — Silver, Gold, Platinum Exterior and Platinum Detail — gets both. It is not a premium-tier upsell here.

Iron-oxide decontamination

Brake dustRail dustIndustrial fallout

Iron lands on your paint as microscopic particles with jagged edges. They embed in the clear coat, and once they oxidise they get sharper still. Two things follow: every wash drags them across the surface and scratches it, and the particles begin pitting downward into the paint.

A thioglycolic-acid chemistry complexes with the iron and oxidises it so it lets go.

You can watch it work. The product runs red-purple down the panel as it reacts. That colour is dissolved iron leaving your paint — and on a Colorado truck after a winter of mag chloride and I-25 brake dust, there is a lot of it.

Chemicals dissolve what they are formulated for and nothing else. What is left sits proud of the clear coat — too small to see, easy to feel. Clay is a soft polymer that shears it off without abrading the paint, provided it stays lubricated.

Dry clay is the number-one cause of clay marring, so we flood the panel and work in straight lines, never circles.

You can feel the job finish. The first pass over a contaminated panel drags. When the drag stops, that section is clean.

Do it the other way round and you damage the car

Claying before the chemical step means pulling embedded, oxidised iron across your own clear coat. It is the fast way to install swirl marks while trying to remove contamination.

It is also why decontamination comes before any sealant or coating. Protection applied over bonded contamination does not remove it — it seals it in, and you have just bought three years of it.

Test it yourself

After a wash, put your hand in a thin plastic bag and run it over the hood.

Glass → you are clean.
Fine sandpaper → bonded contamination, and no amount of washing takes it off.

A crew cab has roughly twice the surface area of a sedan, so it is not the same job and not the same price. No ranges, no call-for-pricing.

Straight answers

What people ask about this package.

How much is a full detail in Colorado Springs?

The Platinum Detail starts at $499 for a car, $499 mid-size, $549 for a full-size truck or SUV and $579 for a van. Four to six hours, and it covers inside, outside and the engine bay in one appointment.

Does it include paint correction?

It includes a single-stage machine correction — one refining pass that removes light-to-moderate swirls and haze. Deeper defects need the dedicated paint correction service, which runs $399 for Stage 1, $599 for Stage 2 and $899 for Stage 3.

Is the engine bay safe to clean?

Yes, when the sensitive components are covered before any water goes near them. That is the whole job: degrease, rinse carefully, dry, then dress the plastics and hoses so they do not look wet and greasy. It is worth real money at trade-in.

Do I get clay bar and iron decontamination?

Yes. Every exterior package we sell includes both, Silver upward. On the Platinum they matter more than usual, because the machine correction and the sealant that follow are both applied to that decontaminated surface.

Should I get this or a ceramic coating?

If the goal is one very good day, this is it. If the goal is paint that stays that way for years, put the money into a Gtechniq coating instead — full correction is included at every tier and it starts at $899. We will say so rather than sell you both.
