Line by line

What the Gold Detail actually includes.

  • Premium foam cannon and two-bucket hand wash — The foam does the lifting before a mitt touches the paint.
  • Full iron-oxide decontamination — Embedded brake and rail dust chemically dissolved out of the clear coat.
  • Clay-bar paint decontamination — The bonded contamination chemicals do not reach, sheared off a flooded surface.
  • Six-month paint sealant — Applied to genuinely clean paint, which is the only way it bonds properly.
  • Wheel and tire deep clean — Wells and barrels, then dressed.
  • Everything in the Full Interior Detail — Extraction, steam-clean, leather and UV conditioner, glass.

What it does not include

  • Machine paint correction
  • Engine bay
  • A multi-year ceramic coating

Gold makes clean paint look its best. It does not remove swirls — that is paint correction, and it is a separate job.

Iron-oxide decontamination and clay bar, in that order.

Every exterior package we sell — Silver, Gold, Platinum Exterior and Platinum Detail — gets both. It is not a premium-tier upsell here.

Iron lands on your paint as microscopic particles with jagged edges. They embed in the clear coat, and once they oxidise they get sharper still. Two things follow: every wash drags them across the surface and scratches it, and the particles begin pitting downward into the paint.

A thioglycolic-acid chemistry complexes with the iron and oxidises it so it lets go.

You can watch it work. The product runs red-purple down the panel as it reacts. That colour is dissolved iron leaving your paint — and on a Colorado truck after a winter of mag chloride and I-25 brake dust, there is a lot of it.

Chemicals dissolve what they are formulated for and nothing else. What is left sits proud of the clear coat — too small to see, easy to feel. Clay is a soft polymer that shears it off without abrading the paint, provided it stays lubricated.

Dry clay is the number-one cause of clay marring, so we flood the panel and work in straight lines, never circles.

You can feel the job finish. The first pass over a contaminated panel drags. When the drag stops, that section is clean.

Do it the other way round and you damage the car

Claying before the chemical step means pulling embedded, oxidised iron across your own clear coat. It is the fast way to install swirl marks while trying to remove contamination.

It is also why decontamination comes before any sealant or coating. Protection applied over bonded contamination does not remove it — it seals it in, and you have just bought three years of it.

Test it yourself

After a wash, put your hand in a thin plastic bag and run it over the hood.

Glass → you are clean.
Fine sandpaper → bonded contamination, and no amount of washing takes it off.

Straight answers

What people ask about this package.

What does a clay bar treatment cost in Colorado Springs?

Clay bar is included in every exterior package we sell, starting with Silver at $229. The Gold Detail at $299 is the one most people book for it, because it pairs the clay-bar and iron-oxide decontamination with a six-month sealant and the full interior.

What does a clay bar actually remove?

Bonded contamination that washing cannot: industrial fallout, overspray, rail dust residue and tree sap that has keyed into the clear coat. If your paint feels like fine sandpaper through a plastic bag after a wash, that is what clay takes off.

Does clay bar damage paint?

Not when it is lubricated. Clay marring is almost always caused by working on a dry or under-lubricated panel, or in circles instead of straight lines. We flood the panel and work in straight passes, and on soft clear coats we use the lightest grade that will do the job.

How long does a six-month sealant really last?

Around six months in Colorado Springs, less if the vehicle lives outside through a mag-chloride winter. If you want years rather than months, a Gtechniq ceramic coating from $899 is the honest answer, and full correction is included at every tier.

Is Gold worth it over Silver?

If you want the paint protected rather than just clean, yes. Silver decontaminates; Gold decontaminates and then seals, and adds hot-water extraction inside. On a vehicle you intend to keep, Gold is the one most people land on.
