Can my windshield chip be repaired?
Most of them, yes. Bullseyes, half moons, star breaks and combination breaks generally repair well up to about the size of a quarter. What needs looking at first: cracks past roughly six inches, damage sitting in the driver’s line of sight, damage right at the edge of the glass, and any chip somebody has already put a hardware-store kit into.
“This is a show car, so I’m extremely careful about who I allow to work on it.”
“Dana is your man if you want your vehicle detailed right and in a timely manner. Skip the others and go with this company.”
The five types
Find yours. Then you’ll know.
Bullseye
A circular break around the impact. Size, depth and location still need inspection.
Half moon
A partial circular break. We inspect the surrounding glass before repair.
Star break
Lines radiate from the impact. Have it assessed before those lines extend.
Combination
A circular break with legs. The complete break determines repairability.
Long crack
Long cracks and damage in critical locations need an inspection; replacement may be needed.

The size rule
Hold a quarter up to it. That’s the test.
If the whole damaged area — the impact point plus any legs running out of it — fits behind a quarter, it’s almost certainly repairable.
Past that it depends on the type. A clean bullseye a little larger than a quarter often still goes. A star break with several long legs usually doesn’t, because each leg has to be filled individually and the resin has to travel further than it reliably can.

THE TEST
Quarter-sized or under
Fits behind the coin, it repairs. This is the one thing you can check yourself in ten seconds.
Where it sits matters as much as how big it is
Four places that change the answer.
01
Driver’s line of sight
A repair leaves a faint mark. Directly in your view, that mark can be worse than the chip. We assess these individually rather than ruling them out.
02
The glass edge
Within about two inches of the edge the glass is under the most stress and the laminate is anchored. Edge damage spreads fast and often can’t be held.
03
Over the camera
If your car has forward ADAS, damage in the camera’s window is its own conversation. We’ll tell you what we see.
04
Already filled
Hardware-store resin cured in a break usually ends the conversation. Nothing else will go in after it.
Bring it in
Edge crack or line of sight?
We look at it free and tell you which way it goes.
Rather ask first
Describe it to us
Call and we’ll tell you what it probably is before you drive over.
What we won’t do
We’d rather repair it than replace it.
A lot of shops will attempt a repair on damage they already know is marginal, because the attempt still bills and the replacement follows anyway. We’d rather tell you up front which one you’re looking at.
We do both, in shop at 2725 N Nevada Ave. Our owner ran a windshield replacement operation in Florida for five years before building ST6, so neither side of this is new to us. If yours repairs, it’s thirty minutes and sixty dollars. If it doesn’t, we source the glass from PPG, Pilkington or Safelite and fit it here — quoted after we look at the vehicle, and we’ll say which one it is before anything starts.
Questions
Repair or replace, answered.
How big is too big for a windshield chip repair?
As a rule, if the damage fits behind a quarter it repairs. Past that it depends on the type — a clean bullseye slightly larger often still goes, while a star break with several long legs usually doesn’t, because the resin has to travel further than it reliably can.
Can a crack be repaired or only a chip?
Short cracks can sometimes be stabilised, but past roughly six inches we’ll want to look at it before promising anything. Long cracks and anything running from the glass edge are usually a replacement.
Can you repair a chip in the driver’s line of sight?
Sometimes, but we’ll talk it through first. A repair always leaves a faint mark, and directly in your view that mark can bother you more than the chip did. We assess these one at a time rather than ruling them out.
I already used a DIY kit — can you still fix it?
Usually not. Once hardware-store resin has cured inside the break there’s nowhere for professional resin to go. This is the most common way a repairable chip turns into a replacement.
Does it matter if my car has a camera behind the windshield?
It can. Damage inside the camera’s window is its own conversation, and some manufacturers are specific about what’s acceptable there. We’ll tell you what we see when we look.
How do I book a windshield chip repair in Colorado Springs?
Call (719) 517-7220 or text (719) 521-6992. Walk-ins welcome. No appointment, deposit or hour’s notice required. Online booking is optional. We’re at 2725 N Nevada Ave, open 6am to 8pm Monday through Saturday and 8am to 6pm Sunday, and we’re staffed for repairs the whole time.
Do I need an appointment or can I just show up?
No appointment or hour’s notice is required. Walk in, book online if you prefer, or call or text for the fastest response. We keep a tech on repairs all day, so same-day is normal rather than a favor.
Do I have to leave the car?
No. A chip repair is about thirty minutes and you wait in our lobby. No loaner to arrange, no dropping it for the day, no second trip to pick it up. You drive away on the same windshield.
What if you decide it can’t be repaired?
We tell you before we start, and we don’t charge you for the look. We do replacements in shop too, with glass from PPG, Pilkington or Safelite — quoted after we see the vehicle.
Do you come to me or is it all in shop?
All of our glass work is in shop, at 2725 N Nevada Ave in Colorado Springs. Resin needs a clean, dry, temperature-controlled break to bond properly, and a replacement needs controlled cure time. Both happen here.

Accreditation
Certified windshield repair. Tested to the standard.
ST6 is a Certified Windshield Repair Technician through the National Windshield Repair Division — a division of the Auto Glass Safety Council.
That matters more than it sounds. The AGSC is the only body in auto glass backed by a published ANSI standard and an independent audit. Certification means passing their exam against ROLAGS — the Repair of Laminated Automotive Glass Standard — not buying a listing or finishing a vendor’s weekend course.
- Credential NWRD Certified Windshield Repair Technician
- Body National Windshield Repair Division, a division of the AGSC
- Standard ANSI/AGSC/NWRD/ROLAGS 002-2022
- What it covers Break identification, repair limits, and when a repair should not be attempted
It’s also why we’ll tell you when a chip shouldn’t be repaired. The standard sets limits, and we work to them.
