Ceramic coating maintenance questions Colorado Springs owners ask.
My coating stopped beading. Did it fail?+
Almost certainly not. Reduced beading is usually contamination masking the coating — traffic film, iron fallout, or mineral deposits. A decontamination reset restores it. Under Gtechniq’s terms, reduced beading alone is not coating failure.
How often does a ceramic coating actually need maintenance?+
A Gtechniq G Wash hand wash every one to two weeks, a Panel Wipe and C2 ceramic seal every two to six weeks depending on whether it’s garaged, full decontamination every three to four months, and inspection annually. Weekly washes while roads are treated.
Can maintenance be done at my home or office?+
Yes. ST6 runs self-contained mobile units with our own water and power, serving homes, offices, condos, and Broadmoor-area residences across South Colorado Springs. Property access and space rules vary, so confirm the address.
Will an automatic car wash hurt my coating?+
Brush washes will. They install swirl marks into the coating and the clear coat beneath it, and abrasive damage doesn’t wash out. Touchless is safer, but not a substitute for a proper contact wash.
Is a touchless car wash safe for a ceramic coating?+
Safer than a brush tunnel, because nothing touches the paint. But touchless bays use aggressive high-pH presoaks to replace the friction, and repeated exposure degrades a coating over time. Occasional use is fine; it is not a maintenance plan.
Does skipping maintenance void my Gtechniq warranty?+
The warranty assumes correct care: washed safely and regularly, approved products, contamination addressed promptly. Neglect and aggressive chemistry put coverage at risk. Annual inspection documents that the vehicle was maintained.
How long does a ceramic coating last?+
Gtechniq rates Crystal Serum Light up to five years and Crystal Serum Ultra up to nine. Those are maintained figures, not shelf life — a neglected coating can be masked and dull inside one Colorado season, while a maintained one runs its full term.
Can I wash my ceramic coated car myself, and what soap should I use?+
Yes, and you should between visits. Use a pH-neutral shampoo with no gloss enhancers or wax — we use Gtechniq G Wash. Two buckets with grit guards, fresh microfiber media, foam first, and a soft microfiber dry. Skip dish soap and anything labeled wash-and-wax.
Do I still need to wax a ceramic coated car?+
No, and you should not. Wax sits on top of the coating, masks how it behaves, and has to be stripped off later. The correct top-up is a compatible ceramic seal — Gtechniq C2 over a panel-wiped surface — which bonds with the coating instead of covering it.
Can you maintain a ceramic coating another shop installed?+
Yes. We maintain coatings from any installer. Tell us what was applied and roughly when if you know — if you do not, the annual inspection tells us what is on the paint and what condition it is in before we recommend anything.
What does maintenance cost?+
Ceramic coating maintenance starts at $199 for a car or crossover and covers the full four-step process. Trucks, SUVs, vans, and vehicles overdue for a reset are quoted on size and condition — send photos or call. Online booking needs 24 hours’ notice; call for sooner.
